Someone flew over the cuckoo's nest is a novel by the American writer Ken Kesey, published in 1962. The narrative, set in a psychiatric hospital, represents a criticism of a system based on imposing and punitive methods, which represses every form of individuality and diversity . There are many other references within it: racism, discrimination, up to American literature and the theme of freedom.
In 1975 Miloš Forman directed the eponymous film transposition, which won five Oscar awards.
The British newspaper The Guardian included it in the list of 1000 books that everyone should read and the weekly Time in that of the 100 best novels in English from 1923 to 2005.
